SHAAD — Ayat 3

3

كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوْا وَلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ

How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape.

Tafsir

{How many} meaning many {have We destroyed before them of a generation} meaning a nation of past nations {and they cried out} when the punishment descended upon them {but there was no time for escape} meaning there was no time for escape and the ta’ is redundant, and the clause is a state of the subject of the word “cried out”, meaning they sought help, and the situation is that there is no escape or rescue, and the disbelievers of Mecca did not take heed of them.
