AL MUZZAMMIL (ORANG YANG BERSELIMUT) — Ayat 17

17

فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ الْوِلْدَانَ شِيبًا

Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired?

Tafsir Ibnu Katsir

Tafsir

{So how can you guard yourself, if you disbelieve?} in this world {against a Day} is the object of tataqanoon, meaning its punishment. With what fortress will you guard yourself against the punishment of a Day {that will turn the children white-haired?} is the plural of ashib because of the severity of its terror, and it is the Day of Resurrection. The root of shīn in shaybā is ḍammah, but it was kasra to match the ya’. It is said about the severe day, the day that will turn the forelocks of children white-haired, and this is a metaphor. It is also possible that what is meant in the verse is the truth.
