{Woe} is a word of torment or a valley in Hell. {For every slanderer and backbiter} meaning someone who slanders and backbites a lot, meaning backbiting was revealed about those who backbite the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the believers, such as Umayyah ibn Khalaf, Al-Walid ibn Al-Mughira, and others.
